Initial passages should be made both in eggs and in GP. Soluble antigens of this strain react in CF tests with immune serums for all members of the spotted fever group.
Strain 246 isolated about 1945 from tick (Dermacentor nuttalli) in Russia. Passaged material labeled No. 246 'R' was subsequently distributed to C. B Philips, USA and from Philips to Bozeman to Fuller.
